The great team of Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney made a thoughtful, excellent remake of Solaris back in 2002. This is an underrated and misunderstood film. I can't even remember what specifically enthused me about it - it's been an uninterrupted 18 months since I've seen it - but I remember thinking that it was one of the finest examples of how to translate sci-fi into film. In general, Soderbergh and Clooney make serious, good, films.
